Based on the Data exchange agreements, which are set up between different Member States and operators in Activity 2, and the installation of DATEX II access points in Activity 4 existing traveller information services will be enriched with information about the neighbouring networks and new services for end-users will be set up. Additionally truck-parking information will be embedded into the traveller information services. Basis for the service delivery are outcomes of the following Activities 2-4:
Specification of harmonised traffic information services delivered by the different involved authorities/ implementing partners (c.p. Activity 2). Only by having these specifications in place and having contracts signed which clearly define ownership, rights and needs on data and information including the data exchange, cross-border service delivery is feasible.
Local data collection, data processing as well as upgrading of existing and development of new (cross-border) TMPs (c.p. Activity 3) will lead to high quality data and services. It is crucial to ensure the collection of high quality data resulting in accurate and user-accepted services.
Establishment of active data exchange (c.p. Activity 4) via DATEX II will lead to seamless cross border service delivery.
The service delivery to the end-user will use existing channels as
Road site information via variable message signs (VMS)
Web-based information by enhancing existing web services (e.g. maps.asfinag.at) with cross-border information covering as well neighbouring countries, and
Service delivery by using RDS-TMC. RDS-TMC supports cross-border messages using a mechanism called ‘Inter-road’ messages, which can be brought to life by CROCODILE.
To do so, described traffic information channels will be individually analysed and extended to overcome gaps at the technical level (including positioning) to enable traffic information beyond countries’ borders. It is planned to enlarge the area covered by single services with accurate and high quality cross-border services.
